DeLaney Community Farm

Situated in a developed and busy part of Aurora, DeLaney Community Farm has a unique approach to farming, food and community. A place of herbs, beehives, perennial flowers and organic food crops, it is surrounded by Aurora City Center, busy streets, and strip malls. On this 158 acre farm (32 crops, 128 varieties, 135 beds of produce) the staff has created not only a sustainable farm that models best practices but also a multicultural community that provides healthy food access to a wide variety of members.

Pot-luck breakfasts and required volunteer member workdays include urban professionals, Burmese refugees from Project Worthmore, and women and children participating in the federal WIC food program. All of these people come together at Delaney Farm and share the nourishing energy of the farm, their love of the land and the belief that the future can include communities growing food sustainably – and in a city.

The Marcus Foundation was able to provide support for much-needed equipment upgrades at the farm. Thank you to all the staff at Denver Urban Gardens who put so much thought into the best use of these funds.

Photos cannot fully capture the tranquility, bounty and energy of DeLaney Community Farm – we hope you will have a chance to visit the farm in person.
